Liberia declares Lassa Fever outbreak

The Liberian government last week declared an outbreak of the viral hemorrhagic fever disease - Lassa Fever.

The Ministry of Health of Liberia made the declaration after 21 people were reported to have died from the disease this year.

At least one health worker, a laboratory technician, is said to be amongst the dead, according to local media reports in Monrovia, the Liberian capital.

Sierra Leone’s tax agency on restructuring

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has launched four different reforms within the custom service department in order to improve revenue and the facilitation of trade in Sierra Leone.

Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura Deputy Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority who chaired the occasion said that the reforms are set to decongest the ports and also position Sierra Leone in the world community of Customs Administration.

Africell concludes codding bootcamp

The telecommunications operator Africell has concluded its codding bootcamp for pupils in primary, secondary and tertiary schools.

The bootcamp which commenced on August 5 and lasted for two weeks, catered for a total of 180 pupils, 60 each from the three categories.

Officials of Africell explained that the bootcamp was meant to serve as a foundation to build from as participants could go home without tutors and begin to add to what they have started learning.

Sierra Leone former Trade Minister arrested for "corruption"

Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Richard Conteh, has been detained by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over suspected graft offenses.

Dr Conteh, who had also served as Chief of Staff and deputy Minister of Trade in the government of Ernest Bai Koroma, was detained on Thursday 29 August after he was invited by the ACC for questioning, a spokesman for the Commission said.

Sierra Leone High Court grants bail to 23 opposition supporters after a month in custody

A High Court in Freetown has granted bail to Karamoh Kabba and 22 other members of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party on trial for alleged riotous conduct.

The opposition operatives are being tried for their involvement in violent clashes on July 29, 2019 at Hamilton Village during a political rally ahead of the cancelled August 24 by-election in Constituency 110.

Plan Int. commits to more collaboration with Sierra Leone Government

The Country Director of Plan International, Evariste Sindayigaya says they will continue to collaborate more with the Government of Sierra Leone to advance the campaign for children’s right across the country.

Sindayigaya made the statement during the presentation of office equipment worth more than Le 200 million to some government ministries, departments and agencies (MDA).
