$50 million project to de-congest Sierra Leone cities

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday launched a landmark project designed to decongest urban centers across the country.

The Sierra Leone Integrated Resilient Urban Mobility Project, estimated to cost US$50million, entails a major overhaul of the transportation infrastructure in urban areas of the country.

Sierra Leone's former VP linked to over 12 houses in Bo District

A State witness’ testimony at the Commissions of Inquiry (COI) on Wednesday has linked former Vice President of Sierra Leone, Victor Bockarie Foh, to over a dozen houses in Bo District.

The witness, Babah Kamara, who claimed to have worked as the caretaker of Mr Foh’s properties in Bo, gave a detailed account of the houses he either bought or constructed during his tenure as Vice President. Kamara said in Foh’s home village of Limba Gbaboh, he financed the construction of more than ten houses.

Guinea protest leaders freed

The leader and other members of the FNDC group in Guinea protesting against the apparent attempt by President Alpha Conde to run for a third term of office have been granted bail by an appeals court in Conakry.
Abdoulrahmane Sano and four others who are serving one year and six months jail term respectively were granted provisional bail yesterday when they made their first appearance appealing against their original senteces last month.

New UNICEF Rep to Sierra Leone presents credentials

The new UNICEF Representative to Sierra Leone, Dr. Suleiman Braimoh, has vowed to deepen the relation between the UN agency and the government has he assumed office.

Dr. Braimoh made the commitment on Wednesday as he formally presented his credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nabeela Tunis.

Dr. Braimoh, a Nigeria, succeeds Dr. Hamid El-Bashir whose has just ended his three year (2017-2019) tour of duty.

Sierra Leone revenue office urges taxpayers to embrace digital system

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) is taking its digitalization drive to a new level with its planned introduction of the Electronic Cash Register System (ECRS) for businesses operating in the country.

Officials said the ECRS, one of several innovations being introduced by the NRA, is meant to encourage businesses to pay taxes due to government and they are calling on taxpayers to embrace the new system that is expected to fully operational next year.

Sierra Leone to introduce ICT in schools

The Sierra Leone government has announced plans to introduce Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in the school curriculum as part of the country’s journey towards a science and technology hub.

Officials said the plan is to introduce the course by next academic year.

ACC calls on CSOs, media to join fight against corruption in Sierra Leone

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has called on journalists and Civil Society activists in the Eastern region to help the commission in the fight against corruption.

The Deputy Director of Public Education and Outreach, Alhassan Kargbo made the call during a visit to Kenema on Tuesday. Kargbo said the role of CSOs and the media is integral considering their interface with the public.
