The Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, captured the award as Minister of the Year at this year’s national awards ceremony organized by Diaspora Focus last weekend. Swaray was unanimously recognized for his hard work and dedication to the advancement of the programs of President Julius Maada Bio’s New Direction administration.
The organizers of the prestigious annual awards described Minister Swaray as a shining light in the SLPP government with an unflinching commitment to the improvement of the Tele-communications sector in Sierra Leone while serving as a role model to many young people throughout the country.
Receiving the award, the minister of Information and Communication said: “This honour and recognition has fired me up to work harder to ensure the actualization of the president’s vision of having a digitally inclusive Sierra Leone bridging the communications gap between government and the citizens and creating the enabling environment to attract win-win investment into the ICT/Telecommunication sector.”
Speaking to Politico, Minister Swaray said much as he was the one recognized by Diaspora Focus, he believed the award represented “a significant vote of confidence in the government of Brigadier retired Julius Maada Bio.”
He said the government was committed to “delivering on its promises to the nation with the total support of all the people of Sierra Leone. The minister congratulated Diaspora Focus for organizing “such an awards program that is widely respected throughout the country and beyond,” noting that President Bio was ready to support such initiatives by Sierra Leoneans at all times.
Since his appointment among the first set of ministers of the New Direction government, Minister Swaray has traveled the length and breadth of the country, taking the government and its activities to areas previously cut off from government information.
