Sierra Leone Standards Bureau conducts training on staff evaluation

A one day training on staff performance evaluation last week is set to reposition the Sierra Leone Standards Bureau (SLSB) as a major contributor to the country’s economic development, officials I have said.

The training in the form of a Performance Appraisal Session (PAS) was conducted at the agency’s headquarters in Freetown on Wednesday, Januuary 8, 2020.

Diesel shortage hits Sierra Leone

Diesel, which is one of the second most used fuels in Sierra Leone, second to petrol, has been reported to be in shortage over the last two days.

On Monday major highways were inundated with stranded passengers at various points in the east end of Freetown and in other areas in the west. Commuters who couldn’t bear the wait due to long queues were forced to trek the long distances to town.

Agriculture is least productive sector in Sierra Leone - New World Bank report

A new report launched by the World Bank has shown that agricultural labour is the least productive compared to other sectors within Sierra Leone’s economy. The report titled: ‘Promoting Economic Diversification in Sierra Leone,’ was launched on Tuesday at the Radisson Blu Mamy Yoko hotel in Freetown.

“In 2018 agriculture employed 58.8% of the labour force, services 32.4% and industry 5.7%. However, agricultural labour has historically been the least productive,” a portion of the report states.

Blood test kits shortage in Kenema

The blood bank at the Kenema Government Hospital is facing severe shortage of blood testing kits, Politico has learnt.

As a result of the shortage, the hospital cannot do blood transfusion for patients coming to the hospital. The situation is especially crucial for pregnant women who need blood on standby when they come to deliver their babies.

Medical superintendent indicted for "theft" of hospital generator

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has on Monday 13th January 2020 indicted Dr. Peter Belmoh Samai, Medical Superintendent of the Bo Government Hospital, over suspected theft of a generator.

Dr Samai, who is accused of converted the generator that belonged to the hospital for his private use, was slammed with three count charges.

British celebrity opens school in Sierra Leone

British celebrity, Kiera Chaplain has opened the Keira Chaplain Desert Flower School at Number 2 River, Freetown Peninsular.  Kiera said the school is part of her effort to empower the community to fight social problems like early marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
