The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has on Monday 13th January 2020 indicted Dr. Peter Belmoh Samai, Medical Superintendent of the Bo Government Hospital, over suspected theft of a generator.

Dr Samai, who is accused of converted the generator that belonged to the hospital for his private use, was slammed with three count charges.

A press release issued by the Commission on the 14th January indicated that Dr. Samai was charged for misappropriation of public property, unlawful disposal of public property, and abuse of office.

It was reported that Dr. Samai between February 2017 and August 2019, removed the 25ES 20kva generator assigned to the hospital and converted to his personal property, thereby depriving the hospital of electricity supply.

According to the press statement, the anti-graft agency’s investigation revealed that Dr. Samai instructed the removal and transfer of the generator from one of the wards in the hospital and was never returned.

“The commission later found a generator of similar description in his home albeit newly sprayed from green to yellow. He instructed Muctaru Monrovia, an electrician at the said hospital, to disconnect the aforementioned generator and remove it from the said premise. When search was carried out at the residence of Dr. Samai, two generators were found for which he failed to produce receipts,” the release partly reads.

The press statement further noted that Dr. Samai also failed to declare his assets and liabilities for the period 2018 and 2019 as provided for in section 119 of the Anti-Corruption Act.

Dr. Samai is expected to make his first appearance on the 16th January at the High Court in Bo.
