The Court of the University of Sierra Leone (USL), the highest decision-making body in the institution has approved and ratified the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), Professor Mohamed Samai, as Pro-Vice-Chancellor, putting him a position to run the University until a new Vice Chancellor is appointed.

This action overturns the earlier decision by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education to appoint Prof. Lawrence Kamara as Vice Chancellor.

President Julius Maada Bio has used an address to his ruling party MPs at a dinner on Saturday 20^th January, 2024 to respond to criticisms of the government's handling of issues around the relocation of former President Ernest Bai Koroma to Nigeria for medical treatment. Dr. Koroma was due to go on trial for treason and other offences arising from the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023, on 17^th January but was granted bail and permitted to leave the country.
