Sierra Leone president assures civil society of continued dialogue

President Julius Maada Bio has assured Civil Society Organizations in Sierra Leone of a continued engagement and dialogue on national issues.

President Bio made this commitment at a meeting held last week at State House, with the goal of having a close discussion on recent national issues including the Corona Virus Disease.

Quarantined residents attempt to break out in southern Sierra Leone

Quarantined residents in two locations in Bo attempted to break out on Sunday amidst complained of prolonged confinement.

The residents were angry that after spending about a month in quarantine, the authorities have still not given them any update on their swab results.

The first incident occurred at the Two Stars Hotel where the residents made their second attempt to break out of quarantine in just one month.

The second incident happened 30 minutes later at Sir Milton Hotel.

Sierra Leone launches 2.23 million euros EU-supported project for capittal

The European Union has facilitated the launch of a project designed to help residents of the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown, cope amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The project, titled: ‘EU Stand with Salone,’ which is worth 2.23 million euros, is meant to support residents in the capital amidst the Corona virus pandemic.

A consortium of civil society groups, led by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), is coordinating the implementation of the project in partnership with the Freetown City Council.

US boosts Sierra Leone army to construct isolation facilities for mildly symptomatic COVID19 patients

The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Medical (RSLAF) team is set to construct isolation facilities to help boost the country’s campaign against the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The project which will be implemented by the medical unit of RSLAF, was made possible with the support of the US government. The support entailed the loaning of key logistical equipment to the Community Care Center of RSALF, located at its Peace Mission Training Center in Hastings.

Controversy as Sierra Leone reneges on retesting its citizens from Kuwait who tested positive for COVID-19

There appears to be disagreement over whether or not to go ahead with retesting 85 Sierra Leoneans who were deported from Kuwait last week. In a controversial test result, 67 of them tested positive for the coronavirus leading to puzzlement or even bewilderment from especially Sierra Leone’s ambassador to the Middle East country, Haja Isata Thomas, who told Politico that they had all tested negative at the airport before boarding the plane.

Over 60% drop in hospital visits in Kenema

Health authorities and campaigners in Kenema have expressed concern over low hospital visits occasioned by fear in the public of contracting the coronavirus disease - Covid-19.

Figures provided by the management of the Kenema Government Hospital show that there has been over a 60% drop in visits, and this, noted Dr. Ibrahim Kapuwa – Medical Superintendent of the facility – potentially has a huge implication on the health of the population.
