Builder jailed for 15 Yr. for penetrating 8yr old

Justice Monfred Sesay of the High Court in Freetown has on Tuesday 7 July 2020 sentenced 34-yeaer old Mohammed Bangura to 15yrs imprisonment for sexually penetrating an 8 years old girl. The judge described the evidence adduced in court against Bangura as “overwhelming.”

Pujehun goes 30 days with no new Covid-19 cases

The Southern district of Pujehun has gone more than 30 days without recording a new case of Coronavirus. Sunday, 8th of July marked exactly 33 days since all COVID-19 patients were discharged from the district’s treatment center.

The District COVID-19 Emergency Response Committee (DICOVERC) has put down the success to their “remarkable” level of organization across the district even before they recorded a case.

With Bo District having recorded more than 100 cases of the coronavirus, there had been concerns that all the cases have had to be taken to Freetown or Lungi. The Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) has now come to the rescue by refurbishing and repurposing the children’s hospital with 34 beds to serve as a treatment and isolation centre.

25 Sierra Leone police officers punished for “misconduct”

The Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, Ambrose Suvula, has ordered the transfer of 25 police officers attached to the Bo East Police station for alleged “misconduct”.

The AIG Southern Region, William Fayia Sellu, confirmed the transfer of the officers to Politico in an interview, noting that the IG is the Chief Executive officer of the Sierra Leone Police force which grant him the authority to punish officers who conduct themselves wrongly in his presence.

Prof. Sankoh assures junior staff of Njala over ‘dirty work’ allowance payment

The Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University, Professor Osman Sankoh, has appealed to members of the Junior Staff Association to exercise patient as he looked into the possibility of paying their outstanding ‘Dirty Work’ Allowances.

Prof. Sankoh, who is fondly called Mallam O, was addressing representatives of the association who had called on him at his office at the administrative building of the university at Njala Mokonde.
