Following citizens’ outcry on the proposed increase in tollgate fees, Parliament invited the various stakeholders involved and had asked that the decision to commence the implementation of the new tollgate charges on March 1st, 2024 be put on hold until investigations are conducted.

A letter addressed to President Julius Maada Bio from the Renaissance Movement has urged the president to implement measures to stabilize the cost of living, particularly considering exchange rate fluctuations.
Dated 20th February 2024, the letter indicated that high cost of living remains pivotal and one of the many factors responsible for the high inflation rate of 52%, limited growth in the private sector,high unemployment rate, and low wages .

The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Maria Yainkain Dumbuya has in a resignation letter addressed to the Inspector- General of Police dated 5th February this year highlighted what she described as “some unexplainable injustices” that she claimed to have been subjected to during some part of her stay in the force.
She said I was never investigated or disciplined for any professional misconduct.

Fifty-five (55) drug dealers were arrested in the Southern Region in 2023, according to the Regional Police Commander -Assistant Inspector-General (AIG), Brima Kanneh.
Kanneh was addressing the media at the Police headquarters in Freetown on 21st February 2024.
He said the drug dealers were charged to court, some jailed and others asked to pay fines.
“The total fines paid amounted to two billion, six hundred and fifty thousand Leones (old),” Kanneh went on.

In the early hours of Thursday, 22 February 2024, students awaiting graduation at Njala University stormed the Bo campus in protest for their graduation gowns ahead of today’s convocation.
This led to the disruption of the first-semester exam for continuing students. Speaking to Politico, one of the students expressed disappointment over the situation.
The Commissioner-General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Jeneba Kpaka-Bangura says they will ensure compliance in the payment of rental income tax, which she said is presently ‘low.’
The Commissioner made this statement at the government’s weekly press briefing in Freetown on 20th February this year.

A Correctional Service officer in Freetown has told the High Court that the eighth accused in the ongoing treason trial has been admitted to hospital for treatment and could not appear for trial on Thursday 22nd February.
The officer presented a medical report in respect of Bai Mahmoud Bangura. Justice Komba Kamanda then announced that he couldn’t continue the matter and adjourned proceedings.
