The Centre for Accountability and Rule of Law (CARL) has urged Sierra Leoneans to demonstrate unwavering support for ongoing anti-corruption efforts in the country, pointing out that the scourge of corruption remains a binding constraint to the country’s development aspirations.

German Ambassador support children in southern Sierra Leone

Some 100 children in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone have received radio, face masks and other items as donation from the German Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Horst Gruner. The gesture, according to benefactor, was geared towards showing solidarity and support to children affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

In a statement at the handing over ceremony last week, Ambassador Gruner noted that the government and people of Germany loved the people of Sierra Leone and that they would always want the relationship to continue. 

Sierra Leone's corruption investigators withdraw from interviewing former president Koroma

Hundreds of supporters of former President Ernest Bai Koroma took to the streets of Makeni on Thursday in demonstration against the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC)’s attempt to question him over allegations of corruption.

The supporters mounted roadblocks on major streets leading to the residence of the former President, who is also the leader of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), thereby denying agents of the ACC access into his residence.

Port Loko gets first girls’ school

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday unveiled the first ever all girl secondary school in Port Loko Town in the North-West Region of the country.

The six-classroom building, equipped with a laboratory, which is described by officials as a lab school, was constructed with funding from Mercury International. The betting firm said it spent over Le500 billion to complete the project.

Four admitted with gunshot wounds after rival clashes in Kailahun

Four people are currently seeking medical attention at the Kenema Government Hospital in eastern Sierra Leone after they were allegedly shot during violent clashes by rival political supporters in Madina Village in neighboring Kailahun District.

The fighting, according to sources, was between supporters of Town Chief of Madina in Kpeje West Chiefdom, Foday Moijueh and Paramount Chief Shamsu Mustapha. The two men contested for the seat of the Paramount Chieftaincy, which was won by Mustapha.

"I have no witnesses" - says man accused of sexual penetration

Michael Kamara, who is accused of sexually penetrating a 12 year-old girl, took the witness stand in his own defence at his trial on a one count indictment of sexual penetration before Justice Monfred Sesay at the High Court in Freetown.

In his testimony on Tuesday, 6th October, the accused said he lived in a make-shift house which had two rooms - one occupied by four people and the other by two others.

Education Minister calls for teacher reassessment in Sierra Leone

The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Dr. Moinina David Sengeh, on Monday made a case for teachers in Sierra Leone to be reassessed so that they get the deserved remuneration.

Sengeh made this call at the signing ceremony of the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for the government’s flagship Free Quality Education programme. That event at State House happened to coincide with this year’s World Teachers Day.
