NRA to ensure rental tax compliance

The Commissioner-General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Jeneba Kpaka-Bangura says they will ensure compliance in the payment of rental income tax, which she said is presently ‘low.’

The Commissioner made this statement at the government’s weekly press briefing in Freetown on 20th February this year.

Treason trial: Case adjourned as Bai Mahmoud falls ill again

A Correctional Service officer in Freetown has told the High Court that the eighth accused in the ongoing treason trial has been admitted to hospital for treatment and could not appear for trial on Thursday 22nd February.

The officer presented a medical report in respect of Bai Mahmoud Bangura. Justice Komba Kamanda then announced that he couldn’t continue the matter and adjourned proceedings.

FBC to investigate campus brawl

Fourah Bay College (FBC) is set to investigate a fight that ensued recently on campus between two female students. A video which went viral on social media showed the two exchanging blows in the presence of many onlookers.   

Commenting on the issue, Students Union (SU) President of FBC, Alfred Micah Sesay expressed regret for such a happening which he said was the least expected from any student on campus.

Bio urges EBID Bank to invest more in Sierra Leone

President Julius Maada Bio has urged the President of ECOWAS Investment Bank Dr. George Agyekum Donkor to increase investment in Sierra Leone, noting that the government intends to undertake many activities for the betterment of the country.

 “So, in addition to continuing to consolidate education, we are now focusing heavily on food security. I hope that with the $200 million and by working with other players, the bank will be able to increase that investment”, Bio said.

Kenema DHMT commences mosquito net distribution

As part of the government’s commitment to combat the rate of malaria infection in the country, the Kenema District Health Management Team (DHMT) through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and development partners has commenced massive distribution of treated mosquito bed nets in the district.

The distribution which commenced on the 21st of February, 2024 attracted stakeholders, lactating and pregnant women, civil society groups, and other organizations working on health programmes in the District.

Sierra Leone bans Coco Samba aphrodisiac

After conducting further laboratory analysis at the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) of Ghana on the “herbal product” Coco Samba, the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has encouraged the public to stop the consumption of these harmful products and report any individual or institution found marketing them.
