Sierra Leone Supreme Court clears anti-corruption boss

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has passed a landmark ruling, clearing questions about the legitimacy of the appointment of Francis Ben Kaifala as ACC Commissioner.

In a unanimous decision on Monday at the Law Court’s Building in Freetown, the panel five judges – four Supreme Court judges and one court of appeal judge - ruled that standing at the Bar and being a legal practitioner starts from the day of call to the Bar.

Kamarainba collapses in court

The Leader and Chairman of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray who’s alleged to have sexually penetrated a sixteen year-old girl, collapsed in court from the dock while the trial was going on.

The 2018 presidential candidate fell suddenly 15-minutes into discussions bordering around his health which his lawyers say was deteriorating because of the absence of appropriate medical care while in detention.

Sierra Leone lifts Covid19 curfew

After hues and cries from the Sierra Leonean populace over inconveniences posed by the nationwide curfew, the National Coronavirus Response Center (NACOVERC) has in a press statement declared temporary lifting of the restriction.

Sierra Leone downsizes Covid-19 workforce

The National COVID-19 Emergency Response Center (NACOVERC) says it is working on scaling down its work force, in a sign of the country getting closer to the end of the pandemic. 

NACOVERC spokesman Solomon Jamiru broke the news in a social media post on Friday, indicating that they intended to cut down the number of staff to a minimum 40% effective 1 November, 2020.

Sierra Leone commissions Inshore Patrol Craft for the Navy

In an effort to protect the country’s territorial waters and ecosystem from external invasions, President Julius Maada Bio has commissioned four Inshore Patrol Crafts meant for the Sierra Leone Navy.

The ceremony took place on Thursday 22nd October 2020 at the White Man’s Bay Navy Headquarters in Freetown.
