19 year-old jailed for strangling friend

Kelfala Mansaray was on Tuesday 26th January jailed four years by Justice Reginald Fynn at the High Court in Freetown after he pleaded guilty to a four count indictment including attempt to strangle, wounding with intent and murder.

Long walk to end rape ends in Sierra Leone

A long walk by two men from Kailahun town to Freetown to draw greater attention to the alarming issue of rape in the country ends today around the historic Cotton Tree in the capital.

Covering a distance of 307 miles, Sierra Leonean Hindolo Pokawa and Dustyn Montgomery his American counterpart started their journey on the 6 January from the eastern district town, passing through Kenema, Bo in the south, Mile 91 and then on to Magburaka and Makeni in the north, before heading for Freetown.

$50 COVID19 test for ECOWAS region

At its 58 Ordinary Session, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has approved $50 as the maximum fee for a COVID19 test for travellers within the sub-region.

“The Authority approves the harmonized ECOWAS Protocol for cross border movement of persons and goods during the pandemic and caps the cost of COVID-19 PCR test for travel within the region by ECOWAS nationals at a maximum of US$50,” a communiqué reads in part.

56 cases for new Sierra Leone High Court criminal session

56 cases are up for trial at the new criminal session of the High Court in Sierra Leone with offences including murder, wounding with intent, robbery and sexual penetration. All those indicted for sexual penetration pleaded not guilty before Justice Reginald Fynn on Monday 25th January.

PAVI-FORT frustrates SALWACO in Kenema

The regional manager (east) of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), Lanasana Sawei has expressed frustration over the damage caused to his company’s installations by the road construction firm, PAVI-Fort which is constructing township roads in Kenema.

Pakistan calls for continued bilateral relations with Sierra Leone

The Pakistani president, Dr. Arif Alvi has called for continued and enhanced trade, investment defense and cultural cooperation between his country and Sierra Leone.

He said Pakistan is home to some of the world’s most reserved Buddhist sites, and expressed hope that tourists from friendly countries like Sierra Leone would visit those places, reports Elizabeth Davidson Campbell, the information attaché at the Sierra Leone embassy in Iran.
