Lands Ministry to focus on urban planning

The Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning Dr. Turad Senessie has said that the Ministry will shift its focus from allocation of lands to proper planning of urban settlements.

 In his first engagement with the press at the Youyi building in Freetown on Thursday 25 February 2021, since assuming office this year, Dr. Senessie said over the years the Ministry has underperformed and was unable to achieve those other key components of  housing and planning and was instead focused on land allocation especially in the western area.

Sierra Leone: Kono MP says new Kono University “corrects an injustice”

Parliament yesterday approved a $32 million loan agreement with ECOWAS for the establishment of the University of Science and Technology in Kono District.

Deputy Minister of Finance, Patricia Lavaley told the House that the project would cost $34 million. She said the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development would provide the $32 million, while the Government of Sierra Leone would counterpart-fund the remaining $ 2 million.

Parliament confirms 38-year-old as Sierra Leone's new Ambassador to Kenya

Parliament has approved Isatu Aminata Bundu, as High Commissioner to Kenya, to replace Peter Joseph Francis who died last year. 

Bundu, who’s 38 years old, becomes one of the youngest Sierra Leonean Ambassadors of all time, probably the youngest since Shirley Gbudema was appointed Ambassador to Ethiopian in 1972 at the age of 36 years.

Bio Opens Sulima for Tourism

During a recent tour of Pujehun district, southern Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio declared the town of Sulima as a tourism development destination.

The declaration came after a conducted tour of the town’s beach area with the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt and other members of his government.
