Sierra Leone’s election observation body, the National Elections Watch NEW, has commended the National Electoral Commission NEC for the peaceful conduct of constituency 010 by-election and that of ward 012, in Kailahun, eastern Sierra Leone.  

NPPA introduces Electronic Procurement system

“Registration for Munafa Fund is free” – SMEDA boss

The Chief Executive Officer of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agencies SMEDA, the institution facilitating the micro-credit scheme named Munafa Fund, Sharka Sannoh has announced that registration for possible access to the loan scheme is free.

At a press briefing at SMEDA’s office in Freetown on Monday 1st February 2021, he said they have received complaints from all over the country of people soliciting cash payments from other persons so they could be registered for the micro-credit.

ACC Targets schools in Kenema

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has targeted various secondary schools in Kenema city with messages against graft. The outreach programme was taken to a number of schools that included Holy Trinity, Nasir Ahmadiyya, Holy Rosary, Islamic and Government Secondary.

Addressing pupils at Holy Trinity, the Commission’s Education Officer East Sulaiman Sowa said they decided to embark on such an exercise so they could engage the mindset of the pupils against corruption.

Court halts Sierra Leone opposition, again

A High Court in Freetown has slammed another injunction on all political activities of the main opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) only days after a similar action was dismissed by Justice Komba Kamanda.

Justice Adrian Fisher’s injunction order on Friday 26th February 2021 followed an Ex-Parte notice of motion with supporting affidavit sworn to by Rashid Santigie Sesay with exhibit attached to it, and from the submission of Lawyer Jesse M. Jengo.

Sierra Leone warns truant pupils

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education MBSSE has warned pupils especially those in terminal classes for public examinations to quit the habit of abandoning their regular school sessions before they take the examinations.

“The Ministry wishes it to be known that it will commence regular surveillance of schools to ensure that pupils who are supposed to be in school attend classes regularly or face very stringent disciplinary measures, including withdrawal of candidature,” a statement  from the Ministry reads.
