Injunction continues on Sierra Leone opposition

Justice Adrian J. Fisher of the High Court in Freetown has ruled that the recent injunction he slammed on all political activities within the main opposition All Peoples Congress Party (APC) will continue “until otherwise determined by the court.”

CAS ruling shames Sierra Leone FA

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has overturned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) governance commission’s decision not to allow Mamadou Antonio Souare, president of the Football Federation of Guinea to run for a position in the Confederation’s Executive Committee because of his alleged links to a betting company in his country.

The court declared Souare eligible to contest and ordered CAF to pay his legal fees.

C4C clash in parliament continues

Member of Parliament, Sahr Charles, of Coalition for Change Party (C4C) for constituency 028, Kono District, has on Thursday 11th March, 2021 denounced their leader in parliament, Saa Emerson Lamina, noting that he is no more recognized as their leader.

He made this statement in the well of parliament when Hon. Emerson Lamina was asked to make his contribution to the debate on the bill entitled Ciber Crime Act 2020 by the Deputy speaker of parliament Sengepoh Solomon Thomas.  The bill will punish cybercriminals.

Aftermath of COI, 31 Assets to be forfeited to the state of Sierra Leone

Thirty – one assets that were the subject of investigations at the Commissions of Inquiry set up by the government of Sierra Leone and have gone through the judicial process are now awaiting orders of forfeiture or confiscation to the state.

The Principal legal consultant in the Attorney General’s Office Lahai Momoh Farma made the disclosure at the weekly press briefing by the Ministry of Information and Communications in Freetown on Thursday 10th March 2021.

Sierra Leone Gender Ministry to host conference on GEWE policy

The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs has in a press release announced plans to host the first-ever national women’s conference aimed at developing a national action plan for the implementation of the recently launched Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (GEWE) Policy.

The conference, the release noted will contribute to the country realizing goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) aimed at achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls.

Former Freetown mayor walks free from murder trial

Justice Augustine Musa of the High Court in Freetown has acquitted and discharged the former mayor of Freetown Herbert George Williams and the Public Relations Officer of the main opposition All Peoples Congress Party Abubakarr Daramy of a two-count indictment of murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

An eleven-member jury unanimously returned a not-guilty verdict on Thursday 11th March 2021 in respect of both counts for the alleged murder of journalist Ibrahim Samura.
