No more bed for COVID-19 patients in Bo

The Bo District COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre has in a media alert expressed concern at the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases and fatalities recorded in the district leading to a lack of bed capacity at the COVID centers.

 “We have also learned with dismay that most of the corpses with severe respiratory illnesses are not swabbed before burial. The bed holding capacities in most health centres in Bo are also now exhausted,” the statement reads.

MRCG calls for the safety of journalists in Sierra Leone

The Media Reform Coordinating Group (MCRG) has launched a report on the state of media freedom in Sierra Leone, highlighting the need for safety of journalists as contained in responses provided by media houses. The event which took place at SLAJ’s Harry Yansaneh hall in Freetown on Friday 2 July 2021 was to highlight issues related to freedom of the press over the last three years, 2018-2020.

Landlady testifies in sexual penetration case

A prosecution witness Balu  Mannah has explained to the Sexual Offences court in Freetown how an accused,  Philip Mammy was identified in an alleged case of sexual penetration of an underage girl.  Appearing before the court presided over by Justice Michael Mamie on Friday 2 July, the woman who identified herself as wife and a house owner, said she could recall 6th August 2020 whilst in her room that the wife of the accused by the name of Amie beckoned her to rush outside.

ILO Boss engages Minister of Works in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s Country Director for the International Labour Organization (ILO) Vanessa Phala  has on Tuesday 30th June 2021, engaged  the Minister of Works and Public Assets- Peter Bayuku Konteh at his New England Ville Office in Freetown on a project worth 60 million Euro.

The project titled “Jobs and Growth Sierra Leone," is said to have a component for the development and maintenance of feeder roads with an investment of 8 million Euros.
