Njala University gets new head

  • Prof. Andrew Baimba new Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal,  Njala University

Professor   Andrew A. Baimba who until his appointment weeks ago, was the Head of Physics Department at Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone, has taken over as the Acting Vice Chancellor & Principal of Njala University, from Professor Osman Sankoh. 

Presenting the New Acting Principal to the administration and staff of the University, David O. Carew Pro- Chancellor of the University who chaired the ceremony said that    the outgone Acting Vice Chancellor Prof.  Sankoh has set the bar high for his successor during his 15 months service to the university ranging from, improving the Financial Management, and partnership with others, to executing various projects and improving electricity on the various campuses, among others.  

In his brief statement, the outgone Principal Prof. Osman Sankoh said the transition started several weeks ago to hand over the Leadership to the current Vice Chancellor who happens to be his lecturer at Njala University.  He thanked the administration and the academic staff association for supporting him as Acting Vice Chancellor and Principal. He noted that he is willing to give his support to Njala University anytime he is invited to do so.

In his statement, the New Acting Principal Prof. Baimba expressed gratitude to the government of Sierra Leone for giving him the opportunity to serve Njala again after he retired from Njala University in 2020 as lecturer. He said he believes in hard work, destiny, and faith which have taken him to where he is. 

He promised to uphold the standards of the university but said it can only be achieved with the commitment and support of all other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Reverend Father, Professor Joseph Turay, Principal University of Makeni described the Outgone Principal as someone who was committed to serving Njala University and that he was very much instrumental in the activities of the University Principals Association.

In his statement, Brima Gebeh, Vice President Academic Staff Association, (ASA) Njala University said before now, it was difficult for lecturers to get promotion but that it was under the Leadership of Prof. Sankoh that promotions of lectures were made possible coupled with other opportunities.  He pledged ASA’s commitment to work with the new leadership of the University.
