Sierra Leone denies any new Law Schools to be established

The Deputy Minister of Justice Umaru Napoleon Koroma has told Politico that there will be no new Law Schools in Sierra Leone as stated in the draft Council of Legal Education Amendment Act, 2021.

However, he said the document leaked on social media when it was still being drafted.

School principals discuss NPSE placement strategies

The National Commission for Basic Education has engaged over two hundred principals of Junior Secondary Schools from Kailahun and Kenema districts on placement admission for pupils who took the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) pupils.

The commission’s Executive Secretary Dr. Josephine Ladepo told heads of schools at the meeting held in Kenema that they wanted to ensure the decentralization of the admission of children who just sat to the exams.

Two senior figures of two of Sierra Leone’s prominent opposition political parties, the National Grand Coalition (NGC) and All Peoples Congress (APC) have criticised the Chairman of the All Political Parties Association (APPA), Prince Coker for what they claimed to be  his corrupt tendencies.

National Grand Coalition (NGC) Chairman, Dr. Dennis Bright confirmed to Politico that his party was no longer a member of APPA, as a result of what he claimed were the actions of Coker that had created a negative image about APPA.

Saudi Arabia to open Embassy in Sierra Leone

As bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi  Arabia tightens, the Kingdom has announced plans to open an Embassy in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The announcement was made by the Saudi Minister of State for African Affairs, Ahmed Abdul Aziz Kattan, during a courtesy visit by Dr. Ibrahim Jalloh, Ambassador of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Vista bank missing billions: trial resumes

The trial of 5 accused persons implicated in several criminal charges that resulted in the missing of over 14 billion Leones at the First International Bank now Vista Bank commenced at the High Court in Freetown on the 16th August 2021.

The trial had initially started as a preliminary investigation with six accused persons at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court in Freetown. Magistrate Mark Ngegba had ruled that all accused persons except one Joseph Chibuze Peters had a case to answer at the High court.

Bo City Council clashes with businesses

A standoff between business owners and the Bo city council yesterday 17th August 2021 led to the close of businesses in Bo, southern Sierra Leone. The clash between the two groups according to report happened after the two parties had signed a communique on the 6th of August 2021 to decongest the roads.
