Freetown High Court no. 2 Judge Musu Damba Kamara was left perplexed as to whether an accused robber, Yusuf Bangura facing trial was dead or missing and on Monday 23rd August 2021, ordered the court Registrar to subpoena a medical doctor at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre to corroborate an officer’s submission that the accused had died in prison. The judge went to her records and realized that the accused had appeared in court days later from the date the officer gave for his death
Bangura was first arraigned at the Magistrate Court for preliminary investigations over allegations of conspiracy to commit a felony and robbery with aggravation.
According to the particulars of offence, he had conspired with other unknown persons to commit the said crime on a Saturday 2nd February 2019 at Gooding Drive off Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown.
The accused was also charged with wounding with intent contrary to Section 18 of the Offences against Persons Act of 1861. According to the particulars of offence, Bangura was accused of wounding one Abubakarr Sedick Mansaray at the same address and on the same date.
The judge ordered the Registrar to subpoena the said doctor at the Correctional facility to present the death certificate with an indication of the time and cause of death on the next adjourned date, of Monday 31st August 2021.
In another matter presided over by the same judge, a man Sheka Sesay, who was arraigned alongside Isaac Williams and Philip Daramy on allegations of conspiracy to commit a murder and murder, fainted on his way to the dock. According to Correctional Officer John Ketika, Sesay was rushed away for first aid treatment.
Sesay and the said two others, according to particulars of offence, conspired together to murder one Anthony Gray sometime between 31st December 2014 and 1st January 2015 in Freetown.
Justice Kamara also adjourned this matter for Monday 31st August 2021.
