After a year behind bars, Kamarainba granted bail

Justice Samuel Omodele Taylor yesterday granted a 100 million Leone bail to Politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray who is being tried in court for alleged sexual penetration of a school girl. The Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) leader was docked at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown last year, accused of having abused the 15-year-old girl on separate occasions in Kono and Freetown.

Justice Taylor ordered that the bail be accompanied with two sureties who should be property owners in the Western Area.

Upper limb prostheses arrive in Sierra Leone

A young UK startup, Koalaa has intervened to remedy the problem of especially upper limb prostheses in Sierra Leone.

A two-man team is in the country to roll out a prosthetics service with the aim of “fitting users with our innovative upper-limb prosthetic, and learning how we can be useful to Sierra Leoneans with a limb difference”.

In collaboration with the Cheshire Home for children living with disabilities, they fitted five young people including 8-year-old Abdul Karima Kabia with prostheses.

Mano River Union to meet Guinea’s junta

A Mano River Union delegation is set to travel to Conakry, Guinea for talks with the Military Junta that toppled President Alpha Conde’s government on Sunday 5 September 2021. This was disclosed by Secretary-General Ambassador Medina A. Wesseh at a hurriedly summoned news conference at their Freetown, Sierra Leone Secretariat.

Wesseh said as soon as travelling modalities are convenient enough they will travel to Conakry for a meeting with the junta leader Colonel Mamady Doumbouya and his counterparts for dialogue.

53 foreigners sentenced for illegal entry into Sierra Leone

53 Foreign Nationals were on the 6th September 2021, sentenced to one month imprisonment and pay a fine of Le 200,000 each by Magistrate Abdul Carew of court No.1 in Kenema after they were found guilty on four count charges including illegal entry into Sierra Leone. Nine Sierra Leoneans, who were arrested during a Police raid on the house where the accused were staying, were acquitted and released.

Sierra Leone gets Chief Medical Examiner

Following his appointment as the new Chief Medical Examiner by President Julius Maada Bio, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma is set to face the house of Parliament any time soon for approval of his appointment.  

 “You are kindly advised to contact the clerk of parliament who will arrange a meeting with committee on appointments and the public service of parliament to consider your appointment,” his appointment letter reads in part.

Bo Rangers appoints two foreign coaches

Ahead of the Sierra Leone Premier league slated to resume on 11 September 2021, the leading team of the Sierra Leone Premier League, Bo Rangers has on Monday 6th September 2021 unveiled two foreign coaches to fans at the Club House in Bo.  

Jose Solomon Cortes, a Swedish national was appointed head coach of the team while Mamadou Camara, a Guinean national was appointed goalkeeper coach.

Sierra Leonean charged with rape alongside Manchester City star

Authorities in the United Kingdom have accused Louis Saha Matturie who is said to have originated from Sierra Leone with four rape charges over the last weekend in the ongoing trail of Benjamin Mendy of Man city football club.

 Louis Saha Matturie, 40, who appeared before magistrates in Chester according to a report by UK’s local tabloid, the Sun Newspaper, was described in court as Mendy’s “runner”.  

The defendant who wept during proceedings spoke only to confirm his name and address.
