A report from Sierra Leone’s Information Attaché in Saudi Arabia has said that a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to meet the government of Sierra Leone in the second week of October, 2021, to plan and conduct technical assessment for the opening of the proposed Saudi Embassy in Freetown.
Abu Bakarr Bah said the Deputy Director of African Affairs, Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Al Balawi informed the mission of the visit during a courtesy visit by the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Ibrahim Jalloh.
In his statement at their engagement, Al Balawi who will be serving as Head of the delegation said the opening of the Saudi Embassy in Freetown would further strengthen the long bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
He said the Saudi Embassy in Freetown would be in the same category of the Saudi Embassy in Accra, Ghana, and would comprise diplomats, security personnel as well as local staff, such as translators/interpreters, secretaries and drivers.
While thanking Al Balawi for the hospitality, Dr. Ibrahim Jalloh said the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have enjoyed long bilateral relations spanning 42 years, adding that the opening of the Saudi Embassy in Freetown is a welcome news for both countries.
It is not clear if a particular spot has been identified for the construction of the said embassy in Freetown.
