Fisheries ministry embarks on stock assessment

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources is engaged in fish stock assessment, Josephus Mammy an official from the ministry told a retreat for journalists and activists in Bo recently. He said the authorities through the assistance of scientific observers would want to get a proper knowledge of the status of the country’s fish stock that would help in making informed decisions.

Sierra Leone's GDP rises to 15.3 %

Amidst the global economic challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sierra Leone’s GDP according to officials of the National Revenue Authority has reached 15.3 percent.

The figure according to the Director-General of NRA, Samuel S. Jibao is the first in the country’s economic history.

Director Jibao noted that initially, they had a target of 6.6 trillion Leones for 2021 and that based on the performance from January to September, there was a slight overperformance.

Sierra Leone's ambassador to Switzerland is elected IOM First Vice Chairperson

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations, Dr Lansana Gberie, has been elected First Vice Chairman of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

His unanimous election was done at the IOM’s 112th Council meeting held in Geneva on the 29th November, 2021.

Sierra Leone's state-owned banks make over Le 26 billion in dividends

Both Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) and Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB) have recorded a dividend of over 26 billion Leones for the year 2021.

This became known as both banks presented their dividends to President Julius Maada Bio at State House, Freetown on Thursday 2nd December 2021 at State House in Freetown.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Dennis Vandy said that the two banks were presenting their dividends with the government being the owner of SLCB and partly owning the RCB.

Oil Installations in danger -says ONS

The Office of National Security (ONS) is investigating several threats and remarks made by unknown people against the facilities of Oil Marketing Companies (OMC).

This fear prodded the ONS, Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA), and other agencies to hold an inter-agency and stakeholders meeting on the 1st December 2021 at the Government Independent Secondary School in Kissy, Freetown.
