Sierra Leone signs service agreement with TRANSCO

An agreement to enable a company TRANSCO transmit  electricity  from Cote D’ Ivoire  to Sierra Leone was on the 17th December signed in the Ivorian capital between the company and Sierra Leone’s  Acting Director General at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) Ing. James Rogers.

Operation decongest Freetown to continue

“Operation clean up for road safety”, a drive aimed at decongesting the streets of Freetown is set to continue according to officials. The first phase of the operation started on the 6th of December and ended last Saturday, 18th of December 2021 with some areas yet to be cleared.

Sierra Leone's president congratulates new German Chancellor

President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has congratulated the new German Chancellor on his election to that office. In his letter dated 13th December 2021, President Bio described the victory of Chancellor Olaf Scholz as a ‘manifestation of the trust and confidence the people of Germany have in the manifesto to lead that great nation’.

Minister outlines progress in health sector

Health and Sanitation Minister, Dr. Austin Demby has explained about the developments taking place in the health sector during a gathering of media practitioners and civil society activists in Bo recently.

The minister mentioned the recruitment of 4,000 more health workers by the present government and the establishing of a Nursing and Midwifery School in Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone.

Le 42 Billion missing in ministries in Sierra Leone

The Annual Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2020 has revealed alleged financial irregularities in many public institutions in Sierra Leone among which are government Ministries and Department which accounted for a total of Le42.3billion financial losses.

“Those identified irregularities have given rise to an estimated loss in cash and stores to the tune of Le42.3billion (Le3.7billion, Le5.6billion and Le33billion in 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively),” the report reads.

Makeni girl wins national debate

Mariama Bangura, a Senior Secondary School pupil at the Saint Joseph Secondary School for girls in Makeni has was declared winner of the Youth National Debate Competition organized by the Talking Drums Studio in Freetown. Whilst Umaru Latif Kamara from the Government Secondary School Bo took the second position.

"The law has vindicated me"-says Sierra Leone former Vice President

Former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh has reacted to Wednesday’s court ruling on the 2017 Hajj Gate scandal, saying it was a clear vindication that he never committed any wrong.   Foh told Politico his innocence has been proven by the court but was quick to say he harbours no bitterness against anyone.

“I knew from the onset that it was all planted on me,” the former vice president said.

Foh dismissed any future return to politics and described himself as a retired politician and law-abiding citizen “laying low”.
