Optimistic outlook for Sierra Leone's mining sector in 2022

On the 27th July 2020, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone appointed Timothy Musa Kabba Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources. The mining sector is a very important source of revenue for the government. NPPA to focus on monitoring in 2022

The National Public Procurement Authority’s (NPPA) Chief Executive Director Ibrahim Brima Swarray has revealed that in the coming year the NPPA will lay emphasis on their monitoring function. Speaking at a press conference held on the 20th December 2021 at NPPA’s Office, Swarray said the institution has been short in its monitoring function and would make it a priority in 2022.  “We are going to pay attention to our monitoring function”, he promised. 

New, expansive school curriculum for Sierra Leone, but teachers have concerns

The Sierra Leone Teachers Union and its affiliate bodies have welcomed the revised curriculum for senior secondary schools across the country that was published on the 16 December 2021.

The proposed transformative curriculum according to Dr. Yatta Kanu, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ministry of Basic & Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) is aimed at meeting modern learning needs and standards.

Over 80% of employers in Sierra Leone snub the disabled - says Heal Salone

The Executive Director of Heal Salone, Joseph Sannoh says 80 to 89 percent surveyed institutions in Sierra Leone do not employ disabled people.

“You cannot tell me that a disabled person cannot be a receptionist or a cashier,” he said.

The Executive Director of the organisation made this assessment on Friday 17th December 2021 to officially launch the Disable Got Talent Award Night which will take place on the 27th of December 2021 at Family Kingdom, Aberdeen in Freetown.

Sierra Leone opposition leader wants audit report debated

 As Audit Service Sierra Leone presents its 2020 annual report to the House of Parliament, the leader of National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has raised a notice of motion for parliamentarians to debate the report.

Dr. Yumkella, while making his submission on Thursday 16th December, 2021 said MPs have been continuously requesting that they debate the various reports of the Auditor General.

Sierra Leone president woos Turkish investors

President Julius Maada Bio, has at the Third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit, over the weekend encouraged Turkish investment in Sierra Leone, citing the advantages of the investment-friendly tax incentives and policies his government has put in place.

According to State House Communications Unit, President Bio made the call at the two-day Istanbul conference hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to launch a new stage in Turkey’s relations with the African Union and African countries.
