No commitment was made by the current government in the allocation of 20% of domestic revenue to healthcare and extension of free healthcare to the aged and persons with disabilities in Sierra Leone as was demanded by the citizens, the latest assessment report of the 2017 Citizen’s Manifesto (CM) revealed.

Solidaridad empowers women cocoa farmers

An International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) operating on quality cocoa production in the Eastern Region, Solidaridad has undertaken a two-day capacity and empowerment training in Kenema for women in agriculture with a focus on cocoa farming and chocolate production.

The Programme Manager European Union Ann Marie Roorda said the cocoa project has been implemented in Sierra Leone and Liberia to help identify farmers engaged in cocoa farming, so as to ensure a sustainable economy.

Parliament amends Sierra Leone’s 1991 constitution

Members of Parliament have amended two aspects of the 1991 constitution of Sierra Leone. This amendment has introduced a commissioner for the Northwest region of the country.

The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone now has six Commissioners, which includes the Chief Electoral Commissioner and five other commissioners inclusive of all the regions.

Sierra Leone doctors issue strike notice

IGR report shows increased absenteeism among Sierra Leone MPs

Increased absenteeism by Members of Parliament continues, according to the latest report by the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR). The second edition of IGR’s Parliamentary Performance Tracker report says “nearly a quarter (24%) of Sierra Leone MPs (35) did not attend half of the 14 sittings between January and March 2022.”
