In an effort to make the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces more productive in contributing to national development in terms of infrastructural development, the Government of the People’s Republic of China has landed a number of assorted construction equipment at Sierra Leone’s Port, for the engineering regiment of the force.

Rapist gets life in prison in Sierra Leone

High Court Judge, Justice Manuela Harding has sentenced a 29-year-old technician, Umar Bai Kamara, to life imprisonment after being convicted of having sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old girl. 

The convict was charged with a count of Sexual Penetration contrary to section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by section 4 a(ii) of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act No. 8 of 2019. 

Kenema hospital gets medical equipment

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation on the 28th of July 2022 handed over three trucks loaded with assorted medical equipment and drugs to the Management of Kenema Government hospital.

The equipment according to officials include a mobile ultrasound scanner, oxygen concentration, resuscitators, bed screeners, assorted drugs, standard hospital beds, Motorola digital radio, bedside cabinets, stretchers, infusion stands, trolleys, anesthetics drugs, pulse dosimeter, blood pressure machines among others.

Journalists urged to change transitional justice reporting

The National Coordinator for the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG), Dr. Francis Sowa has urged media practitioners to change the narrative on transitional justice reporting.

He made this statement during the launch of a handbook for media practitioners in West Africa, at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Headquarters in Freetown, an initiative that was funded by the Africa Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF).

SLeCAD calls for a review of banking restrictions

The Sierra Leone Chamber for Agribusiness Development (SLeCAD) has called on the Sierra Leone Central Bank and the government to review the current banking restrictions to boost businesses and enhance economic growth.

 A statement by SLeCAD says the lack of access to finance and the denomination of the Leone including the cash withdrawal limits from banks are affecting the business sector across the country.

Calls for actors to support breastfeeding

The Deputy Director of the Food and Nutrition Directorate, Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), has called on all actors to support women in different ways to optimize breastfeeding, also known as Breastfeeding in the Warm Chain.

Solade Pyne Bailey was speaking at the commemoration of the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation’s conference Hall in Freetown on Friday, 29th July 2022.
