A 14-year-old girl Fatmata Lahai was yesterday confirmed dead after a gruesome road accident involving a sand truck with registration number ARO195 in the central business district of Bo.
Fatmata according to the Police in Bo was on her way to town when the moving truck that had lost control ran into her and other people including a motorbike rider at the Bo Clock Tower roundabout leaving the others injured.
Speaking to Politico, the Deputy Police Media Southern region, Constable Alhaji Osman Mansaray described the incident as pathetic.
Constable Mansaray said that the girl was confirmed dead by the authorities at the Bo Government Hospital when they visited the facility.
He said that they have launched an investigation into the incident but that the driver was yet to be seen at the time he was speaking to us. Eyewitnesses noted that the driver was at high speed.
Amadu Jalloh, a commercial motorbike rider called on the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority to continue to caution drivers against over- speeding, saying it is on the increase in the township.
The cause of the accident is, however, unclear but the police have assured of a speedy investigation into the matter. The remain of 14-year-old is at the Bo Mortuary.
