Works Ministry demands timely budget allocation

The Ministry of Works and Public Assets has requested a realistic and timely resource allocation so that they could implement their projects efficiently.

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary Rukiatu K. Kamara made this request on Friday 23rd September 2022 during the ongoing budget presentation at the Ministry of Finance (MoF). 

Calls for global action on waste management

Sierra Leone's First Lady, Fatima Bio, on Wednesday, September 21 was among delegates at the Global Waste Management Conference held on the margins of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States of America.

The event was to enhance global commitment to the 'Zero Waste Project' - an initiative of the Turkish First Lady, Emine Erdogan, launched in 2017 to reduce the effect of waste on climate change.

Kenema is most populated district in Sierra Leone – says latest census figures

Kenema is the most populated district in Sierra Leone, according to the preliminary report of the final result of the Mid-Term Census report released by Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) last week.

The district has the highest percentage, a total of 10.2%, making it the most populated in the country. Bo is closely behind Kenema with 10.0%, whilst Western Rural, Kono and Western Area Urban with 8.8%, 8.2%, and 8.1% are third, fourth and fifth respectively.

IMC investigates MP, Citizen FM saga

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has launched an investigation into an incident involving Coalition 4 Change (C4C) party leader in Parliament, Emerson Lamina, and the Radio Station Manager of Citizen FM 107.5, Ibrahim Tamba Fanday in Kono.

The commission says it has been briefed by its Monitoring Research and Project Unit and has opened a formal investigation on the matter, quoting its 2020 Act with the mandate to protect the interest of the public against exploitation or abuse by media institutions.

Sierra Leone's old currency expires in 2023

The Bank of Sierra Leone has extended the expiry date for the old Leone currency that is still in circulation following the introduction of the new redenominated Leone in July. The central bank in a press release dated 15th September 2022 announced the 31st March 2023 as the extended new date that the old Leone will become illegal tender, as against the 1st October 2002 earlier deadline set by the bank.
