Sierra Leonean girls urged to play football

The Secretary to the Women’s Premier League Board, Jennesy Matturi has during the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Information and Communications at Youyi building on the 20th October, 2022, urged young kids to play football.

According to her, in as much as they want young girls to play football, they as well want them to focus on their education which she said is something they will depend on at the end of their career.

Charge statements tendered in new August 10 protests trial

Police Constable Sergeant 9796, James Samai, attached to the Economic Financial and Fraud Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Freetown, has produced and tendered the charge statements of Alfred Fornah and 20 others who are before the court for allegedly committing various public order offences in Makeni in the northern province during the anti-government protests on 10th August 2022.

Labourer jailed 20 years for sexually penetrating 7-year-old child

Court of Appeal Judge, Komba Kamanda, presiding over cases at the Sexual Offences Model Court in Freetown, has sentenced Moseray Kamara to 20 years imprisonment after being found guilty of sexually penetrating a 7-year-old child.

The 30-year-old man was before the court to answer to charges related to Sexual Penetration of a minor, which he denied.

Agriculture Ministry  explains new farmer voice system

The Ministry of Agriculture together with the Small Holder Commercialization Project (SCADEP) has developed an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system platform for farmers.

The voice system which was developed for farmers to send in comments, requests and questions regarding agricultural activities in the country, was recently launched by President Julius Maada Bio on World Food Day in Kabala.

Police testifies in alleged murder case

The third prosecution witness (PW3), Detective Inspector Sylvanus Sandi, attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Lumley Police Division in Freetown, has testified before Magistrate Isata Sellu-Tucker of the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown in the ongoing murder trial of Steven Kanu alias Abala, who was allegedly killed by John Sesay, Abubakar Yamka, and Noel Smart.

The three accused persons are before the court for conspiracy to commit a felony and murder.

PERSIF Trains Health personnel at ETU

The Post Ebola Recovery Social Investment Fund (PERSIF) has held a five day training of trainers for nurses and nursing students at the Eastern Technical University (ETU) Integrated Disease Surveillance Report (IDSR).

The training which started on the 17th and to end tomorrow seeks to enlighten the trainees on how to quickly detect epidemic through certain signs and symptoms. 

Fire victims’ relative concerned over slow response

A relative of the victims of the Aberdeen fire incident that occurred on the 18th October, 2022  Mamusu Kamara has expressed dissatisfaction at the level of response manifested by neighbors saying had they acted quickly enough, her relatives would not have perished in the fire that swept through the apartment.
