Magistrate Isata Sellu-Tucker of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has sentenced Ibrahim Kargbo and Mariatu Kamara to 24 months imprisonment and Fatmata Samura to 27 months and fined them the sum of NLe 5,000,000 (five million Leones) after they were found guilty of committing various public order offences ranging from Riotous Conduct, Unlawful Procession to Insulting Conduct during the anti-government protests in Sierra Leone on 10th August 2022.
The charge sheet stated that the three convicts on the stated date were found along Sani Abacha Street in Freetown processing without lawful duty, and they were also found holding placards.
In his ruling on Monday October 24, Magistrate Sellu-Tucker stated that the prosecution, led by Inspector Abubakarr Tejan Bangura, brought in evidence three witnesses to testify in proving their case.
The defense lawyers for the three were not in court when sentences were handed down. Relatives of the accused burst into tears following the judgement.
The August violent protests left 33 people dead, including 6 Policemen.
