FBC expands Extramural Studies

Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone (USL) is this Friday and Saturday conducting interviews for Diploma and Certificate programme students who have applied for Extramural Mural Studies being introduced by the college for the first time outside of Freetown.

Provision has been made for applicants in the districts of Kenema, Bo, and Makeni to be interviewed in their respective areas instead of travelling to Freetown.

Student in court over alleged Le 89 million theft

Morrison Kabba has been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing the sum of Le 89,810,000 (eighty-nine million, eight hundred and ten thousand leones) at the dwelling house of Winnifred Lightfoot Taylor.

Kabba, 25, a student, was before the court for the offence of Larceny in a dwelling House.

FOCUS 1000 trains religious leaders on breastfeeding advocacy

Freetown: November 2, 2022 (KMN) FOCUS 1000 on Wednesday concluded a two-day training for religious leaders on advocacy on breastfeeding.

The training held in Freetown was designed to capacitate the participants on propagating for particularly exclusive breastfeeding, which is the practice of giving babies breastmilk only from birth up to six months. It is a recommendation by the World Health Organization (WHO) which says breastmilk is the best source of nutrients for babies within this period.

31 years in jail for 35-year-old who raped and murdered 4-year-old

Justice Monfred Sesay of High Court No. 2 in Freetown has sentenced 35-year-old Lahai Kamara to 31 years imprisonment after he was unanimously found guilty by a 10-member jury of sexually penetrating and murdering a 4-year-old girl, Amma Mensah.

The convict, Kamara, a building contractor of 41 Bendembu, Upper Goderich Street, Freetown, was charged with one count of Murder.

The prosecution alleged that the accused on the 28th June 2017 murdered Amma at his work place, near the victim's residence.

Kenema City Council trains farmers on Livestock Production

The Kenema City Council has trained farmers in both livestock production and improved Agronomic practices in crop production.

The training was supported by the European Union (EU) through the resilient strengthening local governance, decentralization and sustainable Urban Development through territorial Approach to local economic development project.

The two days training took place at Chinese farm, Abu road in Kenema on the 1st November, 2022. 

SLAJ, Security Sector commit to complement each other

The resolve was made to mark International Day to end Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on the 2nd November, 2022.

Sierra Leone’s All Politico Parties Association endorses new electoral system

The Chairman of All Political Parties Association (APPA), says the Proportional Representation (PR) system of voting earmarked for the 2023 General Elections will minimize incidences of violence.

 Prince Coker told Politico that they are in support of the PR system due to the numerous advantages it carries for the country, saying it is less expensive owing to the fact that it does not cater for bye-election, in the event of a vacant seat in any constituency or ward.
