Budget Advocacy network rated better in performances

In an open discussion project, officials from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the Media have rated the contributions of the Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) to be better in terms of performance this year, considering their focus on increasing budget participation, transparency, accountability, revenue generation for effective service delivery at local and national levels.

Budapest rally Director hails Sierra Leone’s hospitality

The Director of the Budapest-Bamako-Freetown challenge rally, Andrew G. Szabo has at the finish line on Tuesday 8th November hailed Sierra Leone’s hospitality upon their arrival in the country.

The participants entered the country through Guinea and passed Monday night at Bureh Beach where a carnival was organized for them before they arrived at the finish line at Gigibonta eatery, Lumley beach.

SLCS officers trained on inmate classification

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has funded a two-day training of officers at Sierra Leone Correctional Services (SLCS) on how to classify inmates based on their conduct.

According to the Public Relations Manager, Leslie Cole-Showers the training will help the officers learn how to classify the inmates based on observation after which they will be able to recommend that they are either low or high risk inmates.

ACC convicts 5 for misappropriation of funds

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)  has in a press statement confirmed that  Justice Komba Kamanda has convicted five persons for misappropriation of donor funds.

The statement dated 7th November 2022 explained that the five individuals were convicted on 3rd November 2022 for misappropriating and conspiring to misappropriate donor funds meant for the people of Sierra Leone, noting that they were personnel of Plan International.

RAIC envisages MCC excellent score in FOI – says Chairman

The Chairman of Sierra Leone Right to Access Information Commission (RIAC) Dr Ibrahim Seaga Shaw, while welcoming the country’s excellent performance in the 2023 Millennium Challenge Cooperation (MCC) score by attaining 98% in Freedom of Information (FOI), said the commission had envisioned such progress.

 A press release from RAIC quoted Shaw as saying “it shows that Sierra Leone has made significant progress in making the transition from a culture of secrecy to one of openness.”

Mixed reaction to Sierra Leone lifting timber ban

The latest action by the  Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry Of Internal Affairs to lift the temporary suspension on logging and transporting of timber products  has drawn mixed reactions from various sectors.

A timber dealer, Musa Conteh told Politico that he gets his timber from Kono and believes he would no longer have endure what he saw as endless wait with all its pitfalls including attempts of being cheated or exploited. He said he and other timber traders now have the freedom to do their business, unhindered.
