The Sierra Leone Grammar School has emerged as the champion of the inter secondary school quiz competition organised by the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).

The Murialdo Secondary School from Lunsar, that represented the North West region of the country came second whilst Christ the King College from the South settled for the third position.

The quiz completion that was for Senior Secondary School category held in Freetown on Thursday 10th November 2022, based questions on the basic operations of NASSIT like when the institution was established, who was its first Director General, the first pensioner, the amount of money for a pension, and other related questions.

Politico learnt from the Head of Public Affairs of NASSIT, Mohamed Bangalie, that the Champion of the quiz competition from Grammar School earned a prize money of 20 thousand Leones new currency and a trip to Banjul, the Gambia, while the Murialdo representative, was awarded 10 thousand Leones new currency plus one week stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown.

Responding to a question as to why NASSIT did not provide other offers like learning materials for the school kids instead a trip to the Gambia and a week’s stay at Radisson Blu , Bangalie said  for the  Banjul trip it is geared towards making sure the school kid learns more about the Gambia’s Social Security.

He said the champion will also be opportune to visit the University of Banjul, which he said will serve as an inspiration to be more determined to learn more.

According to NASSIT’s Head of Public Affairs, the trip alone is a learning experience for the school pupil as he will be exploring .

For the second winner, who will be staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel for a week he said the kid will also learn from interactive sessions that will be organised by the hotel.

Christ the King College from Bo in the Southern Region held the third position with a consolation prize of 5 thousand Leones.

Bangalie also noted that 12 schools in all, two from each region, except for Western Area, with four, participated in the quiz.

At the grand finale, Western Region had two representations while the rest of the other four regions had one school representative per region.

The two selected schools from each region first competed against each other to get a sole regional representative.

Grammar School first competed with the Prince of Wales, and Annie Walsh Memorial pitted against St Joseph’s all from Freetown.  Grammar School and the Annie Walsh Secondary emerged as the winners in that first category and ended up representing the Western Area.

The competition was organised by NASSIT to commemorate its 20th anniversary.
