Peace Commission secretary in women’s leadership training

The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) has been represented by its Executive Secretary Hawa Samai at training on “Women’s Leadership in National Defense” held in Monterey, California, the United States.

 The training focused on human-centered design principles to enhance the participating trainees’ experience and best practices in learning.

Over 1.6 million children receive Polio vaccine

Over 1.6 million children under the age of five have been vaccinated in the just concluded first round of polio vaccination across the country, with a second round of vaccination, targeting all children below five years, to start on 8th of June this month, according to a statement from the Deputy Health Minister 1, Dr. Charles Senessie.

Senessie made this disclosure during a round two vaccination campaign press briefing on 5th June 2024 at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) in Freetown.

Special Court engages ETU students on country’s civil war

In a bid to educate young minds about the civil war in Sierra Leone, the outreach officer of the Residual Special Court of Sierra Leone, Patrick Fatorma and team delivered a public lecture to students of the Eastern Technical University (ETU) on people prosecuted by the court during the 10 years conflict in the country.

Prosecution closes case at court martial

Lead State Prosecutor, Joseph A.K. Sesay in the ongoing court martial has explained that after leading 37 witnesses, the state has closed its case against the 26 soldiers.

Sesay told the court on Wednesday 5th June, 2024 that the prosecution decided to drop the rest of the 35 witnesses for the sake of progress.

He said the 26 accused persons were charged on various counts, all totaling 88 counts, of which each of the charges were investigated by various commanders pursuant to the military law.

15-year jail term for former ETU Finance Officer

The High Court in Kenema, presided over by Justice Francis Banks Kamara has jailed the former Assistant Finance Officer of Eastern Technical University (ETU), Sheku Abdulai Kamara to 15 years imprisonment for misappropriation of public funds and other offences, with an alternative to pay an estimated NLE 150, 000 (one hundred and fifty thousand New Leone) on the 28th May, 2024.
