Power outage hits southern Sierra Leone

The recent power outage in Kenema and Bo has raised concern from the management of Transmission Company Cote d’ Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea ( TRANSCO CLSG).
In a press release dated the 7 December 2022, management stated that the 225/33 kv 40 MVA transformer installed at the CLSLG Kenema substation in Tiloma slid due to the activation of its  relay.
It says that led to the loss of stable power supply in the two cities which get their power supply from the CLSG Kenema substation in Tiloma.

Mixed scorecard in Sierra Leone’s extractive governance

Despite Sierra Leone securing an overall high score of 87.5 points in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) report, the  secretariat in its validation report also stated that the country scored low in the area of Beneficial Ownership (BO), and recommended that the country does more in that area.

Sierra Leone president increases subsidy for media

President Julius Maada Bio has increased the annual subvention given to the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLJA) from Le 500,000 (five hundred thousand to Le 700,000 (seven hundred million new Leones).

He made the disclosure during his annual Presidential Media Cocktail at the Country Lodge in Freetown on the 7th December, 2022.

MP makes case for Sierra Leone judiciary

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Sengepoh Solomon Thomas, has called for better conditions of service and improvement of facilities for the judiciary of Sierra Leone.

The lawmaker made this call during the approval of seven high court and three appeal court judges in the house of Parliament on Thursday 8th December, 2022.

Thomas noted that year in year out judges go to parliament for approval but they are not well catered for and  the public instead bash at them.
