High nicotine intake threatens security

Team Lead of Election Conflict Prevention and Mediation Working Group Abdul Fatorma has told a meeting of stakeholders in Kenema that the high intake of nicotine threatens security. Fatorma whilst highlighting the causes of violence noted that too much nicotine can serve as a threat to state security especially during the election.

Sierra Leone trains teachers in early education

The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has ended a two-day training of Pre-school Teachers, Lecturers from Eastern Technical University, and other partners.

According to the Consultant of the training, Dr. Tonya Musa, the training was to show the importance of early childhood education and raise awareness among policymakers  to enhance fundational learning.

Sierra Leone rapper jailed for 9 years

Popular rapper, Alhaji Amadu Bah, better known as LAJ has been jailed for nine years after he was found guilty on four counts of robbery with violence and assault on attendants at a petrol station  at Congo Cross in Freetown. 

The verdict read out by Justice Fisher on Friday 17thMarch found the musician guilty of causing assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

His jail term covers also the 278 days he had already spent on remand.

Sierra Leone First Lady commits to continue fight against SGBV

Sierra Leone’s First Lady Fatima Bio has stressed her resolve to ensure that the government puts an end to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the country. She made this statement at a sanitary pad distribution event targeting over seven hundred school girls in Kenema.  

She said girls not using sanitary pads will affect their health. ‘’Using dirty cloths as sanitary pads can make girls develop bacterial infection” she said. 

WAEC warns against importation of WASSCE Student

West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has warned schools against the importation of students not enrolled since the first year of senior secondary schooling, the institution in a press statement has emphasized.

 It said that candidates taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) should be those who enrolled in the school from SSS 1.

Sister of slain teacher wants justice

Patricia Yvette Osuwo the younger sister of slain teacher Gillis Ola Edwin Johnson has called on the necessary authorities to ensure they get justice.

Speaking to Politico at her Central Freetown residence, Patricia Osuwo said the brutal killing of  her brother at his Victoria Street, Freetown home by a pupil, Mohamed Arun Conteh of Providence International High School, if not dealt with the severity it demands, could serve as bad precedent, that might endanger the lives of other unsuspecting teachers in the future.
