Abacha Street traders get two months grace period to vacate

Sani Abacha Street Traders have been given two months more to vacate the street for trading activities and relocate to the Sewa ground market which is under construction. The traders have recently been moved from the main street to behind the rail guards.

Education ministry engages principals on secondary school placement

Officials of the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) in collaboration with the National Commission for Basic Education (NCBE) and Teaching Service Commission (TSC) have engaged Principals of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Kailahun and Kenema districts regarding pupils that passed the National Primary School Examination (NPSE) to be enrolled into JSS.

The regional placement meeting was held in Kenema on the 9th of August, 2023.

Sierra Leone stands by ECOWAS over Niger – Press Secretary

 Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Solomon Jamiru, has affirmed the country’s commitment to the position taken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) regarding the coup in Niger.

The press secretary said this to journalists at his first press conference at State House in Freetown on Friday 11th August 2023, since he was appointed by President Julius Maada Bio.

Kenema Medical Superintendent bids farewell

After serving the Kenema Government Hospital for over four years, the facility’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ibrahim Mark Kapuwa has bid farewell to its staff and management.

In an interview with Politico, Dr. Kapuwa said despite issues that are bound to happen in any working environment, they were able to achieve a lot for the hospital and commended the staff and management for their roles.

He noted that when he took over as a medical superintendent of the hospital, it was in a terrible state.

Tabital to establish district cattle ranches

The National Organising Secretary of the Fullah Union, Tabital Pulaaku International Sierra Leone Chapter, Mohamed Seray Jalloh, has disclosed the union’s plan to establish district ranches for cattle to prevent the destruction of agricultural produce in communities.

He told Politico in an interview that most of the cattle ranches are in very close proximity to small-scale farms.  He added that as roaming animals, cattle are difficult to control or prevent from destroying the farms.

ECOWAS activates standby force over Niger

The West African sub-regional bloc ECOWAS on Thursday 10th August, 2023 ordered the activation of its Standby Force for a possible military intervention in Niger, where leaders of a coup have refused to return power to deposed President Mohamed Bazouma.

The decision was arrived at in Abuja, Nigeria where a summit of Heads of State in the region met on Thursday to discuss the crisis and in their communique gave the Junta up to Sunday to restore civilian rule by Sunday or risk military intervention.
