Bio commits to uphold international peace, security

As Sierra Leone takes its non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 terms, President Julius Maada Bio has committed the country’s shared duty to uphold international peace and security.

He was making his statement during the General Debate of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level meeting with the theme; "Rebuild Trust and Reignite Global Solidarity" on the 20th September, 2023 in New York, USA.

Sierra Leone’s president seeks access to climate financing

As debate at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) centered on Climate Change, President Julius Maada Bio has sought Sierra Leone’s equitable and timely access to climate financing.

The President was debating at this year’s high-level meeting on the theme: "Rebuild trust and reignite global solidarity" at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Prosecution delays Sumaila Town murder case

After two consecutive hearings without presenting the prosecution witness,   Magistrate Mark Ngegba last Friday expressed his dismay over the delay in the Preliminary Investigations (PI) of a murder case at Court No.1 in Freetown.

He said the matter is a fresh one, but that the prosecution had not proceeded with even their first witness.

The Acting Prosecutor, Police Sergeant Lahai M, while applying for another adjournment, was unable to tell the court the reason for the absence of their witnesses.

EDSA boss optimistic about financial viability

SLEWRC engages stakeholders on EDSA tariff increase

As the challenges to pay power producers heighten, the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has engaged stakeholders in a day’s public hearing for the proposed increase in the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) tariff from 11 to 12 US cents.

The public hearing was held at the Freetown City Council Hall on Lightfoot Boston Street in Freetown   on the 21st September, 2023.

TVET members discuss skills, employment in Banjul

Stakeholders from Member States of ECOWAS have met in Banjul in the Gambia where discussions centred on validating a Draft Action Plan on strategies to improve skills and employability to respond to current and future challenges in the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

The meeting from 19th to 21st September 2023 brought together representatives of member states, development partners and experts in the field of TVET.
