A group of activists, committed to promoting human rights and ending minority discrimination across the country, has been trained to monitor, promote and report on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) issues.
The two-day training was held at the National Stadium’s Presidential Lounge in Freetown.

The UN development programme and the ministry of foreign affairs have launched the 2013 human development index report at Parliament building in Freetown with the theme: “The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World.”
UNDP country director, Mia Seppo said the 2013 HDI listed Sierra Leone along with Angola, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda and Tanzania among countries that made the greatest strides in HDI improvement since 2000.

The Director of the West Africa Power Pool Project says the project is expected to start very soon and will affect some chiefdoms in the district.
Making the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting at the Kenema City Council, Milton Ngabai says the project was an initiate of ECOWAS Heads of States to ensure that all member states have the capacity to provide electricity for their citizenry and agreed to harmonize synergy to help in the power supply in the region.
