APC throws Sierra Leone bike riders into turmoil

A row has broken out among executive members of the Sierra Leone Bike Riders' Union with some members of the body accusing the ruling All People's Congress party (APC) of "undermining" the operations of the union executive.

Alusine Dumbuya, the national Public Relations Officer told Politico that when they took up office, they did so to represent their membership and serve them properly irrespective of political differences.

Sierra Leone Parliamentarians "not serious" - says Minority Leader

House Minority leader of the opposition Sierra Leone People's Party, on Tuesday told the Speaker that she’d observed that members of parliament, especially of her party, would always leave the well while session was on.

Dr. Bernadette Lahai, MP, who sounded livid and appeared worried about the attitude of her colleagues, said they would be blamed if bad bills were passed into laws without the required scrutiny.

Journalists meet Makeni Friday

Over 400 delegates of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists are expected today in the northern provincial headquarter town of Makeni for a two-day annual general meeting which opens tomorrow.

It is the first time the association is holding its annual gathering since the kelvin Lewis-led executive were elected in April last year.

In the last one year, journalists have faced a series of arrests and detention, a period press freedom activists have referred to as the worst attack against the media since the civil war in 2002.

ADfB, Sierra Leone Gov't sign $7.4 million agreement

The government of Sierra Leone has signed a US$7.4 Million agreement with the Africa Development Bank (ADB), for public financial management and budget support for 2014. The agreement is also include a grant of US$150,000 for support for advisory service.

Njala University to account for workers’ benefit

Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Labour yesterday summoned Njala University, Sierra Leone Labour Congress and artisans union to clarify the issue of 98 redundant workers who have still not been paid their benefits.

Secretary General of the Artisans Public Works Services Union, Alhaji Tejan Kassim, said the former workers of the Bo Teachers' College and later Njala University were yet to receive their benefit after over nine years.

World Clubfoot Day observed in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone joined the rest of the world on Tuesday to celebrate World Clubfoot Day at the national rehabilitation centre Aberdeen in Freetown.

The Orthopedic Technology Supervisor, Nathaniel Kargbo said clubfoot was a common deformity that occurs in 1,000 babies worldwide.

He said clubfoot is recognised when one foot or both feet are turned inward and is likely a genetic disorder.
