37 Freetown metro police promoted

Chief Supt. John T. Lassayo- Head of Metropolitan Police

37 Metropolitan police have been promoted to the ranks of Sergeant, Inspector, Assistant Superintendents of Police and Superintendent.

At a ceremony announcing the promotions at the Freetown City Council headquarters in Freetown,  Mayor Franklyn Bode Gibson congratulated the newly-promoted officers saying they were rewarded for their hard work.

He said the Metropolitan Police Department of the Council "is one very important sector that is charged with the responsibility to maintain law and order in Freetown and help the Council to enforce its by-laws". He said it was time for them "to put more effort in their work, because to whom much is given, much is expected".

He appealed to officers who were not promoted to continue working hard because their services would "move the FCC forward".

The Head of the Metropolitan Police, Supt. John Taegomeh Lassayo said the 37 were promoted after they passed an exam.. He said the officers "proved their mettle, and they were honest, dutiful and well-behaved".

He said only officers who had served for five years were entitled to apply for promotions and be allowed to take the exams.
