King Jimmy market cries for help

Chairlady of the King Jimmy Market in Central Freetown has called on government and nongovernmental organisations to help the market community because “we are seriously suffering.”

Neneh Sankoh said that the market was very significant to the history of the country “because it was where they keep the country’s foundation stone”. She added that: “Even the foundation stone is getting lost because of government neglect.”

Sierra Leone journalists, sport officials deported

Three Journalists from the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) and two officials from the Ministry of Sports (MOS) were yesterday Monday 13th October thrown out of Cameroun because they did not have "health certificates."

News of journalist Fajah Barrie, Frank Cole and Mohamed Kelfala Sesay and Mohamed Kabba and James Fofanah from the ministry of sports being prevented from leaving their hotel by Camerounian immigration officers and police broke on Thursday 9th October.

90% street kids abused daily in Sierra Leone

The West district coordinator of the Family Support Unit of the Sierra Leone Police has said that "over 90 % of Sierra Leonean children on the streets are being abused every day."

Detective assistant superintendent,Sia Sandy, told Politico in an exclusive interview that "these children are given assorted goods to sell on the streets instead of going to school."

Gender and advocacy officer in the Ministry of Social Welfare has said that the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone has made 313 children complete orphans since the outbreak in May this year.

More British medics to jet in

Government spokesperson has said about 150 British medics will soon arrive to help contain the further spread of the deadly Ebola hemorrhagic fever that has claimed over 600 lives in Sierra Leone since May.

Abdulai Bayraytay said that was disclosed at the just concluded donor conference in London, adding that that would be an addition to the £120 million Pound Sterling set aside by the British government to assist Sierra Leone.

Head of all Cuban medical teams has said that their government has resolved and committed its efforts to combating the Ebola virus disease that has claimed over 600 lives since May this year.

Dr. Jorge Delgado Bustillo told a ceremony, welcoming some 165 Cuban medics at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown, that more than 10,000 doctors and nurses were ready, three days after their government asked for volunteers to help Sierra Leone tackle the epidemic.
