United Nations sources in Somalia have told Politico that a member of Sierra Leone's peacekeeping contingent serving in that country, over the weekend threw a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bomb at his colleagues in a camp and ran into the bush.
There were no casualties.
Pvt Marah - as he was named to us - was later pursued and brought to his command headquarters.
He was said to have demanded his immediate return home, saying he had become homesick and war-weary - a call many other serving members of LEOBAT 1 have made or corroborated.
He was reportedly said to have been moving from his COY location in TADBA to the battalion headquarters in DHOBLEY.
Some of the soldiers who spoke to Politico alleged that they had gone for two months without a salary.
Two non-Sierra Leonean UN civilian workers who spoke to Politico said disgruntlement was rife among the Sierra Leone contingent who have served beyond their one-year tour of duty which was to have ended in June.
When contacted for his version of events, Sierra Leone's army spokesman, Col Michael Samoura said he had no knowledge about the incident and so would not make a comment.
