1,000 students to benefit from $100 million loan in Sierra Leone

President Julius Maada Bio has received a $100 million no-collateral Educational Loan for 1,000 (one thousand) Sierra Leonean Graduates to Study Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Masters in Business Administration (MBA), and Artificial Intelligence  (AI) courses in the United States of America and Canada.

Sierra Leone records highest ever pass at high school-leaving WASSCE exams

Released Results of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) indicated that 1,346,855 (one million, three hundred and forty-six thousand, eight hundred and fifty-five) passes were recorded, giving a pass rate of 83%, the highest ever recorded. The pass rates in 2021 and 2022 were 64% and 77%, respectively.

Sierra Leone hiphop artist champions Kush campaign from prison

In order to consolidate society's efforts at mitigating the use of the drug Kush, Musician Alhaji Amadu Bah, aka L.A.J who is serving time at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown has championed a campaign to tackle the intake of the substance by youths.

The initiative originated from LAJ himself and another inmate- Bola Nicol. LAJ has so far released a song in prison to discourage young people from taking the substance, highlighting the dangers it poses to society.

MRU to build sports village in Sierra Leone to mark 50 years

SLEWRC increases price of sachet water, EDSA tariff

The Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has officially announced an increase in the prices of sachet water and the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) Tariff, effective 1st October 2023.

The increment was a result of consultative meetings late last month that the commission held with the Water Union (local water producers) and a board meeting within the Commission in line with SLEWRC’s Act of 2021 to address the pressing matter of tariff adjustments.

Appeals Court pauses judgement on appeals by Sierra Leone’s former president, opposition leader

The Court of Appeal has reserved judgment for former President, Ernest Bai Koroma, and top officials of his former government including Dr. Samura Kamara who held different posts in that administration.

The three-judge panel chaired by Justice Ivan Sesay made the announcement on Monday 2nd October 2023 noting that the judgment will be delivered within two weeks and that notices will be served to all parties concerned.
