The health NGO FOCUS 1000 has donated materials to help aid COVID-19 sensitization in the Kenema district. The donated items include five megaphones, USB drives containing health messages adopted along religious teachings and face masks. They package was handed to the District Health Management Team.
The donation was done through the Kombra Media Network, the community engagement arm of the NGO.
The district’s focal person for FOCUS 1000, Emmanuel Musa, said the financial support for the project came through Irish Aid.
Musa added that they wanted to make sure that the chain of transmission of Covid-19 was broken.
The USB drives and loud speakers, which were loaded with religious messages on COVID-19, are meant for religious places – churches and mosques - where COVID-19 messages will be propagated just before the call for prayers.
"The memory sticks with the essential messages will enable [us] to disseminate the message to large population especially when it's Ramadan month,” Musa said.
The hundreds of face masks will also be given to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
On behalf of the District Medical Officer, the Health Sister, Margret Vincent, expressed the gratitude of the district and praised the efforts of the organization.
"We are not surprised with what FOCUS 1000 has done, because they have been helping the ministry of health greatly in service delivery," she said.
“This donation is important as it helps with social mobilization,” she added.
The District Chairman of Kombra Network, Augustine Sannoh, said this is not the first time FOCUS 1000 was supporting the district against health emergencies. He said the organization was committed to support the district and other areas to fight against Covid-19.
