As Albert Academy commemorates its 117 anniversary, current pupils of the school have called on the school authorities to modernize learning by bringing in more computers and equipping the science lab to enable them do practical in school.

The pupils made this call at the press briefing organized by the school’s anniversary committee on Friday 1st October this year to update the public on the activities for the anniversary.

In response to the request made by the pupils, the principal for the senior secondary school, Junisa Vandy said he cannot promise a time line for those requests to be actualized but noted that they were working generally on improving every aspect of the school including their outputs in public examinations.

However, he said he can achieve the quantity aspect of the school by controlling the number of intake and standardize the school passing mark but cannot control the quality aspect of the learning, saying it was a collective effort. Therefore, he called on the teachers and parents to play their part so that the school can regain its past glory.

As the theme for this year’s anniversary which asked the direction the school wants to continue with “same old or new now”, the principal said that they were on a new trajectory and as such, they have developed a five year strategic plan that is going to guide them for the next five years.

He added that they were also working to restore the school boarding home system.

In her statement, the Chairperson of the 117 Anniversary Committee, Zainab A. Kamara said as alumni of the school in Sierra Leone and the diaspora, they were working to ensure that the school move from the old to the new. She said that the United States Chapter of the Albert Academy alumni support will go towards the paving of the school compound whilst the rest of the other funds received will be used for other purposes.

Kamara added that the anniversary activities are well coordinated with both the Sierra Leone Police and the Military to provide security and gave assurances that all covid-19 measures will be adequately observed.
