A total of 17 people have now been arrested by Police in Magburaka in connection to the disappearance of an officer.
Sergeant Nathaniel Lamin went missing during investigation of a conflict between cattle herders.
A police spokesman told Politico that the latest arrests were made on Monday. Earlier on Saturday, Superintendent Samuel Saio Conteh, the Deputy Head of Media at the Sierra Leone Police, had said 11 people were in custody in connection to the case.
Sgt. Lamin went missing on March 17th while on the mission with six of his colleagues at Mano Village, which is located 20 kilometers off Magburaka, the headquarters town of Tonkolili District.
A police report of the incident which Politico had access to states that Sgt Lamin and his colleagues were attacked by villagers and had to hastily load in their vehicle to return to Magburaka. In the rush, Lamin was left behind and they couldn’t notice his disappearance until they reached Magburaka, the report adds.
Superintendent Conteh told Politico that they had had unconfirmed reports, including from police sources, that he was beaten to death.
Sgt. Lamin is attached to the Criminal Investigations Department of the SLP with 17 years of experience under his belt. He had just been transferred from the Waterloo Division to Magburaka.
