Health Authorities, Policy Makers, and representatives of the private sector have deliberated on a number of issues in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) at a “Health and Wellness Business Forum”.
Sierra Leone was represented by Health and Sanitation Minister, Dr. Austin Demby at the forum which is a follow-up on the Dubai Chamber of Commerce EXPO 2020 which was held last year, its original date affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The discussions focused on fostering partnership to enhance equity in healthcare systems. Dr. Demby told the gathering that Sierra Leone has embarked on a process to revolutionise its health sector using innovative ideas. The minister spoke of the government’s efforts in creating better facilities in the health sector for its citizenry. He highlighted the health insurance scheme, the development of the human resource base of the health sector, and ensuring opportunities are made available for all.
The President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Hamed Buamin spoke about the essence of wellness and the priority given by various governments around the world. He said the deliberations would also ensure the issue of health attracts a business perspective.
Buamin mentioned the human capacity building and hi-tech being deployed by the UAE. He said the success of Dubai EXPO 2020 despite the unfavourable climate of the pandemic, was a manifestation of his country’s readiness for business and getting other countries together to discuss innovative solutions related to global challenges.
The government of Sierra Leone has started several key health projects that are aimed at improving service delivery using advanced technology. More hospitals are being built in various parts of the country and equipped with modern healthcare systems. A Diagnostic Centre is also to be constructed that will help reduce over-reliance by Sierra Leoneans on other countries for medical check-ups.
