President Ernest Bai Kororma has renewed his pledge to take development to every corner of the country in his second and final term in office.
Speaking at the state opening of the First Session of the Fourth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, President Koroma reiterated his promises and pledges made during the campaign period calling it “a new social contract”.
He said his “Agenda for Prosperity” would focus on training and jobs for the youth, discipline and order in the society.
Outlining the specifics of his agenda, President Koroma said that since the country’s economy was showing signs of growth, his plans included ensuring that every Sierra Leonean benefited from the country’s rich mineral deposits with better roads and hospitals with a continuation of the free health care and the expansion of public service delivery. He said that he would eliminate political division during elections and combat recklessness.
He pointed out that the country would move forward when its youths were empowered, and reaffirmed his commitment to their service. He said he would create the environment for job creation all over the country and would establish more technical institutions and undertake land reform to increase access to land for youths.
The president however admonished the youth to be hard working and discipline.
President Koroma closed his speech by pointing out that everyone deserved attention including the disabled. He asked all MPs and the opposition to live up to the expectations of their constituents and to collaborate with the government.
